Why Buenos Aires

Golf came to Argentina with Scottish and English settlers in the late 1800s, and Buenos Aires still has the best concentration of private clubs on the continent. Alister MacKenzie, the architect of Augusta National, spent three months here in 1930. The country has hosted the World Cup of golf three times, all in and around the capital.

These clubs are members-only. Getting a tee time means being introduced, which is what we arrange. You stay in the city, play on weekdays when the courses are quiet, and come back to one of the best food and nightlife cities in the world.

It suits a group of friends, a golf society, or a couple who want golf and a proper city break in one trip.

The courses

Seven of the best private clubs in and around the city. Not every club suits every golfer: they differ in design, in service and in whether they have buggies, so we choose the mix for your group.

Buenos Aires Golf ClubIllustrative

Buenos Aires Golf Club

27 holes · nine lakes · 2000 World Cup

Where Tiger Woods and David Duval won the World Cup for the United States in December 2000, three shots ahead of the home side. Water comes into play on much of the course. About 40 minutes from the city centre, and the only course on our list with caddies: they are compulsory here.

Olivos Golf Club

Olivos Golf Club

Par 70 · Luther Koontz · 12 Argentine Opens

Argentina's championship course. It has hosted the national Open twelve times, most recently in 2024. Tree-lined, firm and precise. About 40 minutes from the city centre.

Pilará

Pilará

Jack Nicklaus · his first signature course in Argentina

About 40 km northwest of the city, the first Jack Nicklaus signature design in the country. Look out for the downhill par five that plays like a true links hole. About 45 minutes from the city centre.

NordeltaIllustrative

Nordelta

Par 72 · Nicklaus Design, 2007 · Argentine Open 2009 and 2012

A championship course built for tournaments, routed through old wetlands and around a chain of lakes north of the city. It has hosted the Argentine Open twice and is one of the country's toughest tests. About 30 minutes from the city centre.

Jockey Club (Red course)

Jockey Club (Red course)

Alister MacKenzie, 1930 · World Cups 1962 and 1970

One of MacKenzie's few courses in South America, in San Isidro. Arnold Palmer and Sam Snead won the World Cup here in 1962. The 16th on the Red is often compared with Augusta's 8th. About 30 minutes from the city centre. There are no buggies at the Jockey Club: it is walking only.

Pilar GolfIllustrative

Pilar Golf

27 holes · Ronald Fream, 1992 · Latin America Amateur 2015 and 2025

A modern championship layout north of the city. It hosted the first Latin America Amateur Championship, run with the R&A and Augusta National, and hosted it again in 2025. The winner earns a place in the Masters. About 50 minutes from the city centre.

San AndrésIllustrative

San Andrés

Parkland · Mungo Park Jr. · one of Argentina's oldest clubs

Laid out by the Scottish professional Mungo Park Jr., who won the forerunner of the Argentine Open here three times. An old-school members' club: once inside the gates you forget the city is there. Tom Doak rated its greens the best in the country. About 30 minutes from the city centre.

Day One

Arrive in Buenos Aires

Met at the airport and driven to your hotel. If you land early, a private guide can show you the city: Recoleta, San Telmo and the colours of La Boca. Dinner is late here: tables fill from 9pm.

Day Two

Buenos Aires Golf Club

Your guide collects you after breakfast for the 2000 World Cup course, with water on much of the round. Lunch at the club, back in the city by late afternoon.

Day Three

Olivos

The national championship course: tree-lined, firm and precise.

Day Four

A day off the course

Rest the legs. Choose a private city tour, or a day at a working estancia on the pampas: horses, gauchos and a long asado lunch. In the evening, a tango show.

Day Five

Pilará

Jack Nicklaus's first signature course in Argentina, northwest of the city.

Day Six

The Jockey Club

MacKenzie's Red course in San Isidro, the round many golfers come for.

Day Seven

Day Eight

Home

Breakfast, then a private transfer to the airport.

Good to know

When to go

September to May. September to November and March to May are the most comfortable months for golf; December to February is hot.

Getting there

Flights from the UK go via Madrid or via Brazil. British Airways' Heathrow service to Buenos Aires currently stops in Rio de Janeiro, with non-stop flights (about 14 hours) due to return from 28 March 2027. Flying via Rio? It makes an easy stopover: add a few days in Rio de Janeiro before or after your trip. International flights are not included: you book your own and we plan the trip around them.

Time difference

Argentina is three hours behind the UK in the British winter and four in the British summer, so jet lag is mild.

Entry: British passport holders

Argentina: no visa needed for tourism for up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay. Brazil (a Rio stopover, or the Brazilian side of Iguazú): no visa needed for up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Brazil. Travelling on another passport? Check your own government's advice. Checked against GOV.UK travel advice on 5 October 2026. Rules can change: always check before you travel.

Buggies and caddies

Many of the courses, above all in Patagonia, are hard walking, and buggies need booking in advance: tell us if anyone in the group needs one. Buenos Aires Golf Club is the only course with caddies, and there they are compulsory. The Jockey Club has no buggies at all, so it is walking only. Buggy numbers are limited at some clubs, so for larger groups we book them well ahead.

Dress codes

Private clubs expect collared shirts and tailored shorts or trousers. Your guide will brief you before each round.

Add to any trip

Every trip can be extended before or after the golf:

Iguazú Falls

One to three days at the falls, open all year. You stay on the Argentine side, at the Loi Suites. One day is the Gran Aventura jungle ride and the boat ride under the falls; on another you cross to the Brazilian side for the panorama, with an afternoon round at the Wish Golf Resort, and back to the hotel that evening.

The glacier and Ushuaia

The Perito Moreno glacier at El Calafate, then a short flight to Ushuaia on the Beagle Channel, home of the world’s most southerly golf course.

Cape Horn by expedition ship

A small-ship voyage between Ushuaia and Punta Arenas through the fjords of Tierra del Fuego, with daily landings and a chance to reach Cape Horn.

Torres del Paine

Chile's great national park of granite peaks, glaciers and lakes, from a lodge inside the park.

Fly fishing

Trout rivers around San Martín de los Andes, including the Chimehuin, combined with golf in the mountains.

Uruguay

A short crossing of the River Plate from Buenos Aires.

Rio de Janeiro

A few days in Rio before or after your trip: an easy stopover if you fly via Brazil.

Groups and societies

We look after groups of 8 to 40 golfers, and up to 60 with more notice, with a free place for the group organiser. Non-golfing partners are welcome: we plan their days too.
