Cricket Travel Redefined

From the electric atmosphere of the IPL to the serenity of Kerala's backwaters, India offers the most diverse and intoxicating travel experience on earth.

The Destination

India is cricket's heartland — nowhere on earth is the sport followed with more passion, more colour, or more noise. From the iconic stadiums of Mumbai and Kolkata to the street cricket visible on every corner, India offers a cricket experience that is genuinely unlike anything else.

But India is far more than cricket. The Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur is one of the world's great travel circuits. Rajasthan's palace hotels are legendary. Kerala's backwaters are otherworldly. The tiger reserves of Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh rank among the finest wildlife experiences anywhere. And the food — from street stalls to five-star restaurants — is extraordinary.

Follow On Tours works with our specialist ground partner in India to build bespoke packages around any fixture, any destination, or any combination of cricket and culture. Whether you want two weeks following the IPL across five cities or a week on the beaches of Goa with no cricket at all, we can make it happen.

Practical Information

Entry Requirements

An ETA e-Visa is required for UK nationals, applied for online at indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa. You must also complete an e-arrival card up to 72 hours before arrival. Both are required. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date with a minimum of two blank pages.

Currency

The Indian Rupee (INR) cannot be purchased outside India. Exchange currency at the airport on arrival or withdraw from ATMs, which are widely available in all cities. Credit and debit cards are accepted at hotels, restaurants, and larger establishments. Carry cash for smaller shops, street food, and tips.

Weather

The best time to visit is October to March when temperatures are a comfortable 20–30°C. Mumbai and Chennai are humid year-round. North India (Delhi, Rajasthan) can be cold on December and January evenings — pack a warm layer. The monsoon runs from June to September and should be avoided for most travel. The IPL season (March to May) is hot but manageable, particularly for evening matches.

Getting Around

We recommend private car and driver for all ground transport — it is the safest, most comfortable, and most practical way to travel in India. Domestic flights connect all major cities (1–3 hours). Trains are an option for scenic journeys, particularly the Rajasthan routes. We arrange all transfers and internal transport as part of your itinerary.

Time Zone

India Standard Time (IST) is GMT+5.5. There is no daylight saving time, so the time difference from the UK is 5.5 hours ahead in winter and 4.5 hours ahead in summer.

Health

Drink only bottled water — this is essential. Consult your GP or a travel health clinic at least 6 weeks before departure. Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccinations are recommended. Comprehensive travel insurance is essential and should cover medical evacuation.

Tipping

Tip 10–15% in restaurants where a service charge is not included. Small tips are appreciated for hotel porters, drivers, and guides. Your driver will be with you throughout — a tip at the end of your trip is customary.
