The country

Where you’ll go

Scotland is where golf began, and links golf, played on the sandy ground between the beach and the farmland, is still the purest form of the game.

We go to two places, and we know them properly. On the west coast, Turnberry: two championship links on the same stretch of coast, both looking out at the same lighthouse, and a hotel that has stood above them since 1906.

On the east coast, Trump International Aberdeen: the Old Course and the New, crowned the World's Best Golf Course 2025, rising from the Great Dunes of Scotland, with the five-star MacLeod House.

Play them your own way, or with our ambassador Darren Gough on request, subject to his availability. Every trip is quoted for your group.

The guide

The Scotland guide

Good to knowEntry, money, the weather on the links, tipping, plugs and emergencies.+
Entry and visas+

Scotland is part of the United Kingdom: no visa, passport or border formalities for UK residents. EU, EEA and most international visitors can enter for short stays under the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme introduced in 2024. Check the UK government website if you are travelling from outside the UK.

Money: Scottish notes and cards+

Pound sterling throughout. Scottish banks issue their own notes: they are legal tender in Scotland and generally accepted in England, though some English shops may decline them. Cards are accepted everywhere.

Weather on the links+

Brisk and changeable, and cooler than it looks on the exposed links once the coastal wind gets up. Pack waterproofs and a windproof mid-layer whatever the forecast. Morning coastal mist (haar) can lift quickly to bright sunshine.

Tipping and the 19th hole+

Tipping is appreciated but less expected than in the US. In golf clubhouses, buying the caddie or host a drink at the 19th hole is the done thing.

  • Restaurants: 10 to 15% if service is not already included
  • Taxis: round up to the nearest pound; not obligatory
  • Hotels: optional, £1 to £2 per bag for porters; housekeeping at your discretion
Plugs, phones and emergencies+

UK three-pin plugs (Type G), 230V.

  • Police, ambulance and fire: 999
  • Police, non-emergency: 101
  • 112 works from any mobile for all emergency services
  • NHS 111 for non-emergency medical advice
