Golf in New Zealand

New Zealand has some of the most spectacular golf in the world: clifftop courses above the Pacific, a Jack Nicklaus course on a volcanic lake, and Queenstown, where three championship courses sit within about 15 minutes of each other beneath the mountains.

Built and quoted for your group

Every trip is built for your group: the courses you want to play, the hotels or lodges you want to stay in, and as much of the country as you like around the golf. We quote it, our team on the ground runs it.

What’s on

Golf in New Zealand: what’s on

Each has its own page with the full details. We build it around your group and quote it for you.

Where you play

Northland and Auckland
Kauri Cliffs above Matauri Bay; the two links at Te Arai, by Tom Doak and by Coore and Crenshaw; Titirangi, remodelled by Alister MacKenzie; Windross Farm and Wainui.
Taupō and Hawke's Bay
The Kinloch Club, Jack Nicklaus's first New Zealand course; Wairakei, inside a nature sanctuary; and Tom Doak's Cape Kidnappers on the clifftops.
Wellington
Paraparaumu Beach, a true links on the Kāpiti Coast.
Christchurch and Canterbury
Clearwater, and Terrace Downs in the high country above the Rakaia Gorge.
Queenstown
Jack's Point beneath the Remarkables, Millbrook, home of the New Zealand Open, and Arrowtown among the schist rocks.

When to go

The seasons are the reverse of ours. October to April is the golf season, with December to February the high summer. Many of Queenstown's courses stay open through the winter, June to August, with snow on the mountains and lower green fees: wrap up, and we book afternoon tee times after the morning frost.

Add to any trip

Milford Sound
A cruise through the fiord, by road from Queenstown or Te Anau, or by small plane or helicopter.
Rotorua and Hobbiton
Geysers, mud pools and Māori culture, with the Hobbiton Movie Set close by.
The wine regions
Waiheke Island, Hawke's Bay and Central Otago.
The cricket
A Test at the Basin Reserve or Hagley Oval, built into the same trip.

Good to know

Getting there
There are no direct flights from London to New Zealand. Most routes stop once, in Asia or the Middle East, for example via Singapore, Dubai, Doha or Kuala Lumpur, and the whole journey takes about 25 to 27 hours. Auckland is the main international gateway, and Christchurch and Wellington also take international flights.
New Zealand is 13 hours ahead of the UK from November to March, the heart of the golf season, and 11 to 12 hours ahead the rest of the year. Allow a day or two to get over the jet lag before the first round.
Flights are not included, international or domestic: you book your own and we plan the trip around them.
Entry: British passport holders
What you need to enter New Zealand.
  • New Zealand: no visa needed to visit for up to 6 months, but you must have a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you travel. Apply online or through the official NZeTA app, and allow up to 72 hours. It lasts up to 2 years.
  • You pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) when you request your NZeTA. A fee applies for both: check the current amounts with Immigration New Zealand.
  • Your passport must have an expiry date at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave New Zealand, and you must be able to show a return or onward ticket.
  • Complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration before you arrive: you can submit it from 24 hours before your journey begins. Most food cannot be brought in, and New Zealand enforces this strictly.
  • Travelling on another passport? Check your own government's advice.
