The series Australia have not won since 2004
In September 1986, at Chepauk in Chennai, Australia and India played out only the second tied Test in the history of the game. Dean Jones made 210, Allan Border 106, and India were bowled out for 347 with the scores level. Ten years later the two countries gave the series a name, after Border and after Gavaskar.
Australia have won one Test series in India since. That was 2004, and it ended a drought of 35 years. India have won every home series against them in the years either side. In 2027 Australia come back for five Tests in six weeks, in Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi and Ahmedabad.

THE ROUTE
The Five Cities

Nagpur
The series opens at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha, 21 to 25 January. Six nights in the city, with a choice of the Tuli Imperial or the Radisson Blu. From here the tour turns south to Chennai, by way of Goa if you take the coastal break.

Chennai
The second Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, 29 January to 2 February, on one of the oldest and loudest grounds in the country. The Accord Metropolitan or the Leela Palace. The longest gap in the series follows, eight days before Guwahati.

Guwahati
The third Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, 11 to 15 February, on the Brahmaputra in Assam and a long way from the usual cricket map. The Arista by Ambition or the Novotel. Kolkata sits between here and Ranchi.

Ranchi
The fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, 19 to 23 February, in the hills of Jharkhand. Le Lac Sarovar Portico or the Courtyard by Marriott, then a short hop west to Mumbai before the finale.

Ahmedabad
The series closes at the Narendra Modi Stadium, 27 February to 3 March. The Fortune Landmark or the Radisson Blu. Worth knowing before you choose: Gujarat is a dry state and largely vegetarian, and only a small number of hotels serve alcohol or non-vegetarian food.

Travel Essentials
Practical Info
Getting there
International flights arrive into India at Delhi, Mumbai or your first match city. You book your own flights; we meet every arrival and take you privately to your hotel.
Getting between the Tests
The five Tests run across five cities over six weeks. Our four extensions are sample itineraries for the gaps between them: Nagpur to Chennai by way of Goa, Chennai to Guwahati by way of Delhi and Rajasthan, Guwahati to Ranchi by way of Kolkata, Ranchi to Ahmedabad by way of Mumbai. The flights between match cities are yours to book, and each itinerary says which sectors it needs.
What each match week includes
Six nights with daily breakfast, all airport and match-day transfers in a private air-conditioned car with driver, match tickets for all five days, local assistance and applicable taxes. International flights and meals other than breakfast are not included, and no tour manager travels with the group.
Ahmedabad
Gujarat is a dry state and largely vegetarian. Only a small number of hotels in Ahmedabad serve alcohol or non-vegetarian food. We will tell you which before you choose.
Baggage on Indian domestic flights
Domestic flights within India allow 15kg checked and 7kg hand luggage per person. Excess is charged at the airport, currently INR 600 to 650 per kilo. It can be pre-booked at a supplement, and across a six-week trip that is usually worth doing.
