Cricket in Pakistan

England went back to Pakistan in 2022 after 17 years away, and have played there on three visits since: seven T20s and three Tests in 2022, three Tests in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025.

England back after 17 years

England are back in October 2026 for an ODI tri-series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka: four group games in Rawalpindi and Lahore, and the final in Lahore on 31 October if they reach it. We are not offering trips to Pakistan yet: join the Family below to be first to hear when we do.

Why Pakistan

Few cricket countries love the game the way Pakistan does. Grounds fill, the noise rarely drops, and travelling fans are treated as guests. England supporters who went in 2022 and 2024 came home talking about the crowds as much as the cricket.

The season runs from October to March, when the plains are dry and the days are warm to mild.

England in Pakistan

2005: the last tour before the gap
Three Tests in Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore, which Pakistan won 2-0. From 2009 Pakistan played its home cricket mostly in the UAE, and Test cricket did not return to Pakistan until December 2019.
2022: the return
Seven T20s in Karachi and Lahore in September and October, which England won 4-3, then three Tests in December. England won all three, in Rawalpindi, Multan and Karachi, and scored 506 runs on the first day in Rawalpindi, the most ever on the first day of a Test.
2024: three Tests
Two Tests in Multan and one in Rawalpindi in October. England won the first by an innings, with 823 for 7, Harry Brook’s 317 and Joe Root’s 262. Pakistan’s spinners won the next two and the series 2-1.
2025: the Champions Trophy
Pakistan hosted its first ICC tournament since 1996. England played Australia and Afghanistan at the rebuilt Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and South Africa in Karachi.
2026: the ODI tri-series
England are back in October 2026 for a one-day tri-series with Pakistan and Sri Lanka, in Rawalpindi and Lahore. Beyond it, no England tour is in the published schedule; Pakistan hosts the women’s T20 World Cup in 2028.

The 2026 ODI tri-series

Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England each play the other two twice, and the top two meet in the final. England’s games:

Tuesday 20 October · Pakistan v England
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Thursday 22 October · Sri Lanka v England
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Sunday 25 October · Pakistan v England
Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Thursday 29 October · Sri Lanka v England
Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Saturday 31 October · The final
Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, for the top two teams.

The grounds

Where England have played since 2022.

Lahore · Gaddafi Stadium
Pakistan’s most famous ground, and the venue of the 1996 World Cup final. Rebuilt for the 2025 Champions Trophy, to hold about 35,000, with new seats, new floodlights and big screens.
In the city, close to Lahore’s main hotels. Lahore’s food street and walled city are an evening’s outing away.
Karachi · National Bank Stadium
Karachi’s Test ground since the 1950s, upgraded for the Champions Trophy with 5,000 new seats and new floodlights. England won the third Test here in December 2022, when 18-year-old Rehan Ahmed took five wickets on debut.
A large roof covers the seating. Karachi is the most international of the cricket cities, with the widest choice of hotels.
Rawalpindi · Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
“Pindi” sits next to the capital, Islamabad, and its crowd is one of the loudest in the country. England made 657 here in December 2022, including 506 on the first day.
Most visitors stay in Islamabad, a short drive away, with the Margalla Hills in view.
Multan · Multan Cricket Stadium
A big, open ground in southern Punjab, and the scene of England’s 823 for 7 in October 2024. England also won here in 2022, by 26 runs.
Multan is the City of Saints, with blue-tiled Sufi shrines and famous street food. Security around the ground is tight.

Add to any trip

Lahore and Wagah
The Mughal fort, the Badshahi Mosque, the walled city, and the flag-lowering ceremony at the Wagah border, about 30 km east of the city.
Taxila and Murree
From Islamabad: the Buddhist ruins and museum at Taxila, a World Heritage Site, and the old hill station at Murree.
Makli and Thatta
A day from Karachi: the Makli necropolis, one of the largest in the world, the Shah Jahan Mosque and the Chaukundi tombs.
Bahawalpur and the Cholistan desert
From Multan: Uch Sharif’s tiled tombs, the palaces of Bahawalpur and Derawar Fort in the desert.

Good to know

The weather
October and November are warm and dry. December and January are cool in Lahore, Islamabad and Multan, often 5 to 20°C, with morning fog and smog in Lahore. Karachi stays warm all winter.
A dry tour
Alcohol is restricted in Pakistan and is not sold in shops, bars or restaurants. Some international hotels can serve non-Muslim foreign guests. Plan on a dry tour.
Travel advice
The UK government advises against travel to some parts of Pakistan, including all of Balochistan, Peshawar and much of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Sindh north of Nawabshah. The cricket cities, Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and Multan, are not in those areas.
We only plan trips in places the UK government does not advise against, and we check the advice again before you travel. International cricket in Pakistan runs with a heavy security presence at the grounds and around the teams.
Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against the UK government’s advice, so make sure your policy covers your whole itinerary. Stay away from demonstrations and political gatherings.

Getting there
There are non-stop flights from London Heathrow to Islamabad and to Lahore, and from Manchester to Islamabad, about 8 hours. Most other routes connect once in the Gulf, with flights into Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Multan. Pakistan is 5 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 4 hours ahead in summer.
Between the cricket cities, domestic flights are the quickest way: Karachi to Lahore or to Islamabad is about 2 hours. Lahore to Islamabad is about 4 hours by motorway.
International flights are not included: you book your own and we plan the trip around them.
Entry: British passport holders
What you need to enter Pakistan.
