Pick a match, a series or a road trip between the grounds, and we build the rest: hotels, match tickets, transfers and excursions.

Why New Zealand

"New Zealand has been on my cricket travel radar for years, and every trip confirms what I already knew: it's one of the finest places on earth to watch cricket. The grounds are intimate, the landscapes are extraordinary, and the welcome is genuinely warm." Ian Kerr, founder

The grounds

Wellington · Basin Reserve
New Zealand's oldest and most iconic Test ground, established in 1868, with a capacity of about 11,500. It is an inner-city ground completely surrounded by roads, with Mount Victoria rising behind the northern end. The atmosphere is intimate and uniquely Wellington: expect strong winds and passionate local support.
Hotels we recommend, or similar, subject to availability: QT Wellington on the waterfront, walking distance to Te Papa and the Basin; the InterContinental Wellington, overlooking the harbour; the Sofitel Wellington on Bolton Street, close to the cable car and Parliament; the Ibis Wellington near Cuba Street, good value and walking distance to the ground.
Wellington airport is 20 to 30 minutes from the city centre by taxi or shuttle. The Basin Reserve is a 10 to 20 minute walk from most city-centre hotels.
Christchurch · Hagley Oval
Set within Hagley Park, and developed into a full international venue for the 2015 Cricket World Cup, when it hosted the opening match. Capacity is about 18,000. On clear days the Southern Alps make a dramatic backdrop, the facilities are modern, and the park setting makes match days feel like a festival.
Hotels we recommend, or similar, subject to availability: The George, beside Hagley Park and overlooking the Avon, steps from the Oval; Distinction Christchurch on Cathedral Square, modern and good value; Heritage Christchurch on Cathedral Square, apartment-style rooms in a heritage building, good for longer stays and families.
Christchurch airport is 15 to 20 minutes from the city centre by taxi or shuttle. Hagley Oval is a pleasant 10 to 15 minute walk through Hagley Park from most central hotels.
Auckland · Eden Park
New Zealand's largest ground, with a capacity of about 42,000, shared with rugby union. It is used for major limited-overs internationals and special Test matches, with good facilities and transport links.
Hotels we recommend, or similar, subject to availability: Park Hyatt Auckland on the Viaduct Harbour waterfront; Hotel DeBrett on High Street, a boutique hotel with a rooftop bar; Cordis Auckland on Symonds Street, with restaurants, a pool and a spa.
Auckland airport is 35 to 50 minutes from the city centre, depending on traffic, and an express airport bus runs regularly. Eden Park is 15 to 20 minutes from the city centre by taxi.
Mount Maunganui · Bay Oval
Cricket by the beach, with The Mount visible from the stands. Capacity is about 6,000; it has hosted Tests since 2019, and the atmosphere is relaxed and holiday-like, in the Bay of Plenty.
Hamilton · Seddon Park
An intimate ground in the Waikato, with a capacity of about 10,000 and a green, lush outfield. A regular venue for Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
Napier · McLean Park
In the art deco city of Hawke’s Bay, wine country. A Sri Lanka ODI on 16 January 2027.
Nelson · Saxton Oval
A small, green ground at the top of the South Island, close to Abel Tasman National Park. Sri Lanka T20Is on 29 and 31 January 2027.
Dunedin · University Oval
A Test ground in the Scottish-flavoured university city of Otago. A Sri Lanka ODI on 22 January 2027.

Add to any trip

Queenstown
The adventure capital: bungee jumping, jet boats and Central Otago wine on Lake Wakatipu. Allow 2 to 3 nights at least.
Milford Sound
A cruise through the fiord past towering cliffs and waterfalls. A day trip from Queenstown or Te Anau.
Rotorua and Hobbiton
Geysers, mud pools and Māori culture, with the Hobbiton Movie Set 45 minutes away. Easy from Auckland or Hamilton.
The wine regions
Marlborough sauvignon blanc, Hawke’s Bay reds, Central Otago pinot noir and Waiheke Island near Auckland.

Good to know

The weather
The international season runs through the New Zealand summer. Expect 20 to 28°C, but be ready for four seasons in one day: pack layers and a rain jacket. UV levels are very high: wear SPF 50+, even when it is cloudy.
Getting there
There are no direct flights from London to New Zealand. Most routes stop once, in Asia or the Middle East, for example via Singapore, Dubai, Doha or Kuala Lumpur, and the whole journey takes about 25 to 27 hours. Auckland is the main international gateway, and Christchurch and Wellington also take international flights.
New Zealand is 13 hours ahead of the UK through most of the cricket season (November to March), and 11 to 12 hours ahead the rest of the year. Allow a day or two to get over the jet lag.
International flights are not included: you book your own and we plan the trip around them.
Entry: British passport holders
What you need to enter New Zealand.
  • New Zealand: no visa needed to visit for up to 6 months, but you must have a New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before you travel. Apply online or through the official NZeTA app, and allow up to 72 hours. It lasts up to 2 years.
  • You pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) when you request your NZeTA. A fee applies for both: check the current amounts with Immigration New Zealand.
  • Your passport must have an expiry date at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave New Zealand, and you must be able to show a return or onward ticket.
  • Complete the New Zealand Traveller Declaration before you arrive: you can submit it from 24 hours before your journey begins. Most food cannot be brought in, and New Zealand enforces this strictly.
  • Travelling on another passport? Check your own government's advice.
Checked against GOV.UK travel advice and Immigration New Zealand on 7 October 2026. Rules can change: always check before you travel. GOV.UK: New Zealand · Immigration New Zealand: NZeTA
