Why Bangladesh

Bangladesh rewards the curious traveller. The cricket is passionate and welcoming, the food is outstanding, and the cultural experiences, from Mughal architecture in Old Dhaka to the long beach at Cox’s Bazar, make for a memorable tour.

Few England fans make this trip. Those who do find passionate crowds, warm hospitality and a February climate of 25 to 30°C.

The series

England are expected for two Tests in February 2027. Dates and venues have not been announced; we add them here as soon as they are confirmed.

The grounds

Bangladesh’s main Test grounds. Which of them host England is still to be confirmed.

Dhaka · Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (Mirpur)
Bangladesh’s principal Test venue since 2007, with a capacity of about 25,000, modern floodlights and excellent drainage. It is in the Mirpur district, around 30 minutes from the city centre.
Dhaka traffic can be heavy: allow 60 to 90 minutes for airport transfers. Transfers are arranged for you.
Sylhet · Sylhet International Cricket Stadium
Built in 2007, with a capacity of about 18,000, and Bangladesh’s eighth Test venue, hosting its first Test in November 2018. Set among the hills of the tea country, it is widely rated one of the most scenic grounds in world cricket, and has a grass “green gallery” embankment.
Sylhet has its own airport, with flights from Dhaka.
Chittagong (Chattogram) · Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium
A Test venue since 2006, with a capacity of about 22,000, a balanced pitch and modern floodlights. It hosted matches at the 2011 World Cup.
In the port city of Chittagong, about an hour by air from Dhaka.
And the other Test grounds
Bangladesh has also played Test cricket at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, the gateway to the Sundarbans, at Fatullah just outside Dhaka, and at Bogura in the north.

Add to any trip

Cox’s Bazar
One of the longest natural beaches in the world, about an hour by air from Dhaka. Allow 2 to 3 nights.
The Sundarbans
The largest mangrove forest in the world, home of the Bengal tiger. Khulna is the gateway.
Sreemangal
The tea capital of Bangladesh, in the green hills of the north-east, near Sylhet.
Bagerhat
A 15th-century mosque city and World Heritage Site, about 24 km from Khulna: easy to pair with the Sundarbans.

Good to know

The weather
February is one of the best months to visit: warm and dry, with daytime temperatures of 25 to 30°C and moderate humidity.
Ramadan
Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February 2027 and end in early March, depending on the sighting of the moon. Many people fast during daylight hours: we plan meals and days around it.
Getting there
There are non-stop flights from London Heathrow to Dhaka, about 9 and a half hours. Bangladesh is 6 hours ahead of the UK in winter and 5 hours ahead in summer.
Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar are each about an hour by air from Dhaka, and Sylhet has its own airport with flights from Dhaka.
International flights are not included: you book your own and we plan the trip around them.
Entry: British passport holders
What you need to enter Bangladesh.
  • Bangladesh: you need a visa to visit, for up to 3 months. Apply in advance from the Bangladeshi High Commission in the UK. You may also be able to pre-register online before you travel.
  • A visa on arrival may be possible at Dhaka airport: single entry, valid for 15 to 30 days, and not guaranteed, as immigration officers issue it at their discretion. You need a return ticket and proof of funds. We recommend applying in advance.
  • Your passport must have at least 2 blank pages and no damage, and an expiry date at least 6 months after the date your visa starts. Make sure you get an entry stamp when you arrive, and carry your return or onward ticket: you may be asked for it at border control.
  • You need a yellow fever certificate only if you are arriving from a country listed as a yellow fever risk.
  • Travelling on another passport? Check your own government's advice.
