Why this trip

For golfers who want to play, and play again. Fancourt has three courses on the estate, a practice ground and a spa, and Pinnacle Point and Simola are a short drive along the coast.

Stay in one place for ten nights and play as much as you like.

The courses

The Links at Fancourt

The Links at Fancourt

Gary Player · George

Gary Player's links-style course at Fancourt, with rolling fairways and dunes, and host of the 2003 Presidents Cup. Open only to members and Fancourt hotel guests, with limited tee times; every golfer takes a caddie.

Pinnacle Point

Pinnacle Point

Peter Matkovich · Mossel Bay

Clifftop holes above the Indian Ocean, with the sea in view from almost every tee. Carts are compulsory.

Simola

Simola

Jack Nicklaus · Knysna

A Jack Nicklaus Signature course in the hills above Knysna, with views down over the lagoon to the Heads.

Montagu

Montagu

Fancourt, George · parkland

One of Fancourt's two championship parkland courses, on an estate sheltered by the Outeniqua Mountains.

Outeniqua

Gary Player · Fancourt, George

Fancourt's other parkland course, a Gary Player design with the Outeniqua Mountains behind it. Not open to outside visitors, so it is rarely busy.

Good to know

When to go

All year. The Garden Route is mild in every season; the Cape is best from September to April. On the Highveld (Johannesburg and Sun City) summer brings late-afternoon storms from October to April, so we book early tee times.

Getting there

There are direct flights from London Heathrow to Cape Town (about 12 hours) and to Johannesburg (about 11 hours). South Africa is 1 hour ahead of the UK in summer and 2 hours ahead in winter, so there is little jet lag.

Entry

British passport holders need no visa for a holiday of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days after you leave and have at least 2 blank pages. Check the GOV.UK travel advice before you travel.

Handicaps

Many clubs ask for a handicap certificate. Bring yours.

Dress

Collared shirts tucked in; no T-shirts or denim on the course.

Add to any trip

Every trip can be extended before or after the golf:

Victoria Falls

The falls on the Zambezi, a short flight from Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Rovos Rail

A luxury train journey across southern Africa.

Mauritius

A week on the beach, with golf too: a flight from Johannesburg.

East Africa

A safari in Kenya or a gorilla trek in Rwanda.

The cricket

A Test at Newlands or the Wanderers, built into the same trip.

Groups and societies

From two golfers to a whole society. Tell us your numbers and we plan the trip around them. Non-golfing partners are welcome: we plan their days too.
