The MacLeod Name

Hold Fast

The house takes its name from Clan MacLeod — chiefs of Norse blood, descended from Leod, son of one of the last Norse kings, who held Lewis, Harris and Skye. Their motto, "Hold Fast," still carries on the Hebridean wind. Here on the Aberdeenshire coast that same elemental Scotland shapes the golf: mountainous dunes, cavernous hollows, infinity greens, and the North Sea breaking a wedge away — links golf at its rawest and grandest.

Darren Gough

Darren Gough MBE

Darren Gough MBE is one of England's most celebrated cricketers — a fast bowler who took 229 Test wickets and was a central figure in England sides throughout the 1990s and 2000s. His high-energy personality and passion for sport made him a fan favourite during and after his playing days. Since retiring from cricket, Darren has become a prominent media personality and has been involved in a range of hosting and ambassador roles across sport and entertainment. Golf has long been a constant alongside his cricket career, and he brings the same competitive instinct and warmth to the fairway that he brought to the crease.

“I've spent seventeen years putting these trips together. Having Darren host them is the bit I'm most looking forward to.”

— Ian Kerr, Founder

The Rhythm of a Long Weekend — Yours to Reshape

Day One

Arrival

Draw up to MacLeod House as the light goes long over the estate. A dram by the fire, then dinner with Darren — the first stories of the weekend told over the best of Scotland's larder.

Day Two

The Old Course, with Darren

Out onto the Old Course while the dunes are still cool — the multi-award-winning links that first carved through this coast — Darren on the tee beside you. The afternoon is yours: the Clavis whisky wall, the spa, or simply the North Sea view. Dinner back at the lodge.

Day Three

The World's Best, with Darren

A second round alongside Darren across the New Course — crowned the World's Best Golf Course 2025. A dram out in the dunes as the light fades, then your last dinner on the estate.

Day Four

One Last Morning

A slow breakfast with the sea working away beyond the glass. No itinerary, no rush — just the quiet certainty that you'll be back.

Prefer to play independently? The same rhythm, without a host — arranged direct.
